Write or die. 2nd Activity of this free week

Developing your writing skill is a very important part of learning a language. When you write something it's very important to ensure that there are no mistakes before you let anyone read it. In the planning and drafting stages though it can be much more important to get your ideas down on paper first and not to worry about accuracy.

Today's activity focuses on this drafting stage of the writing process and uses a website from Dr Wicked called 'Write or Die'.

The idea of the website is that you must keep writing. If you stop and pause too long your screen will go red and the words you have written will start to disappear until you start writing again.

This should force you to write more quickly and become a fluent writer. You will be able to correct you errors afterwards once you have your basic text. This is that way that most successful writers work in their own language.

Task:

* First choose a subject that you would like to write about. Here are a few suggestions.

You last holiday
A sport that you enjoy
A band or singer that you like
A good film you have seen
Your family
The best day of your life
Your job or the job you would like to have

* Before you start you might like to think of some key points that you would like to include about your topic.

* When you are ready to start writing go to: http://lab.drwicked.com/writeordie.html

* Set you 'Word Goal' to 300. Set the 'Grace Period' to 'Evil' and set the mode to 'Kamikaze'. There's no need to enter a time.

* Then when you are ready click on 'Write!' You will see a field for your text. Click on it and start to write about your topic as quickly as you can. Your word count will start to appear in the bottom right hand corner.

* As long as you keep writing the screen will stay white, but if you stop it will go red. If you stop for too long, your words will start to disappear and you will have to write them again.
* Do your best and try to write 300 words. If this is too difficult you can lower the word goal to 200 or 150.
* Once you have to to your word goal, click on the button that says 'Done'. You can then copy your text and start looking at and correcting the errors.

  1. Here is my fast writting...

Many people cuold think that abbandoning the church's group is an awful action. But not many think WHY I decided to do that. I have been going there for 6 years (at least) and the last courses I felt like I did not have to be there, it was difficult for me to find something on my mind that could tell "Keep going!".
Once I felt this, it was not difficult for me to accept when an important friend invited me to go to an opera and zarzuela chorus, that was at the same hour of the church's group. I think that the most important thing of this situation was the feeling that she did believe in me when knowing that I wanted to learn how to sing. She had heard me singing, so she knew I really liked it and I would try hard to be there and be better at it, too.
I really do not know how to thank her for giving my this opportunity.

I really really liked the excercise!!!

  3. I rather don't say how much time I took -Lol-

Well, today I'd like to write about my last holiday. Tha's about trhee days ago... I went to La Pampa, a province of Argentina southern to Buenos Aires. It is said that it is "the door to La Patagonia". I really enjoyed the trip, though the lack of I experimented in the field me and my aunt and uncle stayed. It had no electricity -the only lights we had were some cnadels and a gas light-, no hot water, nor telephone line. The main objective of this trip was to do some major and medium hunting, as deers on antilopes, or some savage porks. But the country there in La Patagonia it too dry, and it doesn't seem to be recovering soon. That's the reason why we couldn't find much hunting pieces. We mainly went hunting at night, in a pick-up truck, so that we could find deers. Actually, we saw, and pursuit one, but it scaped and we couln't get it. I was just full of adrenaline, up there in the back part of the truck. So, I was the onlyone that hunted something: a catof the mount and a rabbit. And some birds...I mainly used a shotgun, but I also used a .22 carbine. But it's not only about shooting, it is also about aiming! That's something i learned when I had to shoot a bottle with a .44 Magnum revolver. I just couldn't! But the learning part doessn't finish there. I learned a lot of things which I'm not able to see in daily life, like an 'economic cooker', for example. Or how to get the prices ready to be eaten. I also had a great time doing some off-road driving, in daylight, of course. Now I know how to steer, acelerate and break in midly bad conditions. I hope I soon have the chance to make this trip again.

    A challenging exercise.

  4. I can see you did enjoy your hunting trip, many people do. I'm afraid I don't share your passion for guns and hunting. Anyway, I'm glad you had a good time there.
